About Us

For over 5,000 years, to our current knowledge, humans have engraved meaningful art into their skin.  Looking into the grand scheme of caring for the skin, even just within the known history of tattoos, petroleum-derived skincare products have only very recently emerged.  Tattooing is both an ancient and sacred art form that has always been completely synergistic with nature, at least until recent developments in “Western” manufacturing and health practices.  No one should argue that gloves, stainless steel, or precise machinery have facilitated optimal conditions in which to be tattooed, but many people are starting to question the efficacy and safety of petroleum based lubricants, creams, and soaps, often containing unnecessary and unnatural additives.  These same people are proposing the possibility that in all of our technological advancement, in some cases we could have looked more thoroughly before leaping into mass-producing chemical and artificial products.  Natural tattoo care is a fairly new factor in the industry, and it’s still quite rare to see such products enhanced with beneficial extracts.  In this context, we see our mission as something much deeper than an opportunity to simply establish a successful business – we feel a sense of responsibility to provide a quality option to those who seek it and a positive influence to those still learning why we should all be conscious of what we put on or in our bodies.  By this mission, we acknowledge the potential to participate in an evolution back to nature.  VitaliTree will always be committed to producing and developing products that work using the finest ethically sourced natural ingredients, featuring proprietary extracts we obtain through petroleum-free processes using only plant-derived compounds in a state-of-the-art safe and clean environment.

VitaliTree as a brand seeks to inspire more than just quality tattoo care.  We believe in art, but the kind of creative expression that goes into tattooing can not be fairly represented by rock-star idolatry or product placement.  That said, we feel it is the duty of anyone participating in a creative industry to uphold standards of authenticity and thoughtfulness in their art and in their actions.  By aligning our business with artists who not only believe in our products but in our core values of healing with nature, community activism, and radical creative expression, we hope to expand our community of genuine people while holding down a good example in the tattoo world, the business world, and the consumer market.  We will always strive to work together with any partner or customer to make things worthwhile to everyone, especially for the end user, but we will never “buy” an artist’s support.

Roots run deep in our Family Tree.  As an independent startup employing less than twenty close friends that thrives on grassroots and word-of-mouth marketing, we deeply value our eclectic community.  Within our company, each one of us brings to the round table many different unique skills with years of valuable wisdom.  We are developing a business model that provides our collective family with fair compensations, adequate bonding time in comfortable environments, and what we cumulatively believe to be holistic wellness with understanding for the value of any individual’s time or situation in sickness and health.  Every person is unique and requires a different sort of attention than the next to reach his or her potential, so we often see that over-standardization can be inhibiting to a group’s productivity.  What we have found to work for us is not always consistent with conventional business practices, but we have found that when each participant is happy and feels valued, an organization has the greatest potential to flourish.  Everything we do, we do naturally with innovative ideas and masterful technique.  There much more information to be found around this website on our formulations, their various benefits, the ingredients we use, and the care we take ethically sourcing them, but we’d still love to hear from you.  Feel free to reach out to us as a creative ally or just as a curious human!

Founders Profiles

The founders of VitaliTree are true modern medicine men, taking inspiration chiefly from Mother Nature and Father Time.

Nathaniel Pelton

Nathaniel had spent the first 18 years of his life traveling the world with his mother performing in various stage shows and circus’ such as Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey. Working with people of many different cultures from around the world he always found a way to break through language barriers and seemed to look beyond the surface to find what was within. When he decided to run away “from” the circus, he began the deeper journey within, exploring consciousness and experiencing things of a more mysterious nature. When this journey took him into the realm of cultural and ritualistically used plant medicines, he met and formed an unbreakable alliance with his business partner and best friend Tom Benitscheck. Being an avid lover of the art of tattooing, when the discovery of the powerful healing benefits of plants took place, the vision that has become VitaliTree was born.

Tom Benitscheck

Tom Benitscheck studied the healing potential of many different plants on his travels across North, Central, and South America, and by these journeys he was opened up to a network of visionary pioneers and the multitude of powerful plants they worked with. Along the path he was made aware of the Central American tree Mimosa Tenuiflora (Tepezcohuite). This plant offered what seemed to be immense skin rejuvenating benefits to his whole family, especially before and after his first child’s birth. He brought his early prototype formulations to Nathaniel who saw first, amidst this vast new world of potential, a void that needed to be filled within the body modification industry. Combining forces provided the proper balance of knowledge, connections, and relentless drive to bring their beautiful vision to life.
